IBI surveyed 256 human resources and benefits managers about their company’s return-to-work (RTW) resources. We then matched participants’ survey responses to their company’s short-term disability (STD) claims outcomes in IBI’s Health and Productivity Benchmarking system. The good news: Companies with RTW resources saw bigger year-over-year declines in their disability durations. The bad news: Half the employers surveyed had no RTW resources. Most that did lacked resources directly focused on managing non-occupational disability cases.
