The Integrated Benefits Institute, in partnership with American Benefits Consulting, has released new research on how large U.S. employers manage benefit continuation during employee leave. Based on responses from 304 senior HR and benefits leaders at companies with 2,500+ employees, this comprehensive study reveals critical insights into Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and unpaid personal leave policies.

Key Findings:

Ninety-eight percent (98%) offer STD and 96% offer LTD programs, but benefit continuation varies dramatically.
Seventy-three percent (73%) continue medical insurance during STD vs. only 52% during LTD.
Large employers (50,000+) provide significantly more generous continuation than mid-sized companies.
Over half of employers struggle with tracking premium payments and communicating options.
Forty-seven percent (47%) have different policies based on work-related vs. non-work disability, creating compliance risks.

This data-driven report provides rare industry benchmarks and identifies where employers can strengthen their leave policies to improve employee retention, equity, and compliance.
