Gen Z does not have a fragility problem. They have jobs that never switch off. That is the blunt conclusion of a new study pairing candid Gen Z interviews with a survey of 500 employed U.S. adults.

Work-life balance now outranks money, mental health, and job security as the generation's top workplace concern. Nearly nine in ten Gen Z workers have stepped away from work for stress or burnout in the last 12 months. Coming back is the harder part: the stress follows them home, so time off rarely resets anything.

The usual explanations do not survive the data. It is not money. Financial worry cuts across every generation. It is not ignorance. No cohort understands its benefits better. What Gen Z wants is work-life balance, written guarantees, and less friction when using leave. The lever for employers is not pulling workers back into buildings; it is building clean boundaries between work and personal life.
