Offering health promotion programs have become a central strategy for businesses to improve employee well-being, manage chronic conditions, and reduce illness-related absence and impaired job performance in the workplace. According to CDC’s 2017 Workplace Health in America report, about half of all U.S. employers offer at least one health promotion program for their employees. However, offering of a program does not automatically produce the sought-after results. IBI researched literature and spoke with experts to explore how workplace culture could impact program participation. The analysis revealed a positive association between program participation and the extent to which a workplace promotes a culture of health. IBI hosted a webinar on Tuesday, May 12 at 1:00pm EDT where IBI Researcher Erin Peterson facilitated an employer panel discussion to share strategies and guidance of shaping a culture of health in the workplace and the effects they’ve seen as a result. In light of the current events, how strategies and attention have shifted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was also discussed. The webinar featured the following speakers:

Brian Davey, Director, Health and Safety, World Bank Jennifer Posa, Global Head, Employee Mental Wellbeing & Workplace Effectiveness, Johnson & Johnson Krystal Sexton, Americas Regional Lead, Human Performance and Care, Shell Oil Company Erin Peterson, Researcher, Integrated Benefits Institute
